*NEW* APC Configuration Tool!
Unfortunately, even with Firefox gaining market share on all platforms and OS X being adopted by many in my line of work said tool didn’t work with Safari. Being a SysAdmin and a PITA I filled out their feedback form like so:
—–
The design portal does not seem to work with Safari Version 2.0.4 (419.3) under OS X 10.4.7, with or without popup blocking enabled. The ap gets as far as displaying the Sun Java logo and a “Cylon Eye” progress meter, but never finishes loading. Also, this feedback window sizes itself such that the right hand text is cut off at approximately the “a” in “I do not expect a”.
APC should probably be interested in supporting the Apple platform. USENIX runs the premier System Administration conference, LISA, over half of the attendees of which have final say on purchasing network infrastructure. Anecdotally, at LISA ‘05:
“Apple laptops were very popular at the show. In my informal tally of laptops at the conference, it looked like iBooks and PowerBooks made up about half of the laptops at LISA”

I received a response this morning, which surprised me as I expected the feedback from’s output tobe directed to /dev/null:

At some point we had to make a decision which systems we wanted to support because at this moment we cannot support all. As all of our applications are making use of an Active X component which is only supported by Window’s Explorer and the majority of our users are working on PCs with Windows we decided to go that way for the time being. We are monitoring the trend and if we see a shift we will of course also support other systems.
However, you are always welcome to contact our configuration team who will be able to assist you configuring a solution.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. I should stomp on over to the competition to buy replacement UPSs, but APC has this nice discount on trade-ins. The trade-in can be in *any* condition, and I have two SU3000RMXLs that were destroyed in shipping to dispose of. So, APC will still get a pile of cash.
